Book title  : Health and Welfare of Captive Reptiles
Editor(s)     : Clifford Warwick, Phillip C. Arena, Gordon M. Burghardt
Contact      : cliffordwarwick@gmail.com
Publisher   : Springer

About this book: This extensively revised and expanded new edition offers concepts, principles and applied information that relates to the wellbeing of reptiles. As a manual on health and welfare in a similar vein to volumes addressing the sciences of anatomy, behaviour or psychology, this book thoroughly examines the biology of reptile welfare and is about meeting biological needs.
The editors, acknowledged experts in their own right, have once again drawn together an extremely impressive international group of contributors. Positive and negative implications of general husbandry and research programs are discussed. In addition to greatly revised original content are nine new chapters offering readers novel insight into:
• sensory systems
• social behaviour
• brain and cognition
• controlled deprivation and enrichment
• effects of captivity-imposed noise and light disturbance on welfare
• spatial and thermal factors
• evidential thresholds for species suitability in captivity
• record keeping as an aid to captive care
• arbitrary husbandry practices and misconceptions
The authors have adopted a user-friendly writing style to accommodate a broad readership. Although primarily aimed at academic professionals, this comprehensive volume is fundamentally a biology book that will also inform all involved in captive reptile husbandry. Among others, zoo personnel, herpetologists, veterinarians, lab animal scientists, and expert readers in animal welfare and behavioural studies will benefit from this updated work.

Book title  : Current Topics in Perinatology and Neonatology
Editor(s)     : Nazan Yurtcu, Ali Çetin
Contact      : nyurtcu58@gmail.com
Publisher   : Nova Science Publishers

About this book: Developments in the fetus and newborn ensure that the babies survive and continue to live healthy, even if they are as low as 500 g. In this book, new scientific and medical advances are included, and neonatal and pregnancy complications, diagnosis, treatment, and patient management in co-morbid conditions that can be seen with pregnancy are explained. High-risk pregnancy follow-up requires a multidisciplinary study. In this sense, the connection between obstetrics and neonatology is very close. At the same time, in cases where there are maternal diseases, there are clinical situations that need to be managed together with other clinical branches. We believe that this book, prepared by experienced specialist physicians, will guide all physicians and academicians in their approaches to high-risk pregnancy, pregnancy follow-up with some diseases, and newborn problems.

Book title  : Signalling Pathways of Immune System
Editor(s)     : Mustafa Usanmaz
Contact      : m_usanmaz@yahoo.com
Publisher   : Nova Science Publishers

About this book: Cell signaling is the ability of a cell to receive, process, and transmit signals with its environment and with itself. Cell signaling is a fundamental property of all cellular life. Immunology is a science that investigates host defense mechanisms and immune cell functions under physiological and pathological conditions. In immunity, signaling pathways provide information about the basic operators of immunity. The issue of immunity, which has come to the fore again with the Covid-19 pandemic, will be discussed with the signal pathways it is associated with, as it has not been discussed before. Our study will provide an opportunity to have an overview of the signaling pathways involved in the function of cells in the immune system. The only work written on the subject was prepared in 2009, and 10 years is a long time for advances in signal pathways in developing medicine.

Book title  : Self-Governance and Sami Communities
Editor(s)     : Jesper Larsson, Eva-Lotta, Päiviö Sjaunja
Contact      : jesper.larsson@slu.se
Publisher   : Palgrave Macmillan

About this book: This book uses an interdisciplinary approach that not only focuses on social organization but also analyzes how societies and ecological settings were interwoven. How did early modern indigenous Sami inhabitants in interior northwest Fennoscandia build institutions for governance of natural resources? The book answers this question by exploring how they made decisions regarding natural resource management, mainly with regard to wild game, fish, and grazing land and illuminate how Sami users, in a changing economy, altered the long-term rules for use of land and water in a self-governance context. The early modern period was a transforming phase of property rights due to fundamental changes in Sami economy: from an economy based on fishing and hunting to an economy where reindeer pastoralism became the main occupation for many Sami. The book gives a new portrayal of how proficiently and systematically indigenous inhabitants organized and governed natural assets and how capable they were in building highly functioning institutions for governance.

Book title  : Genetic Engineering and Genome Editing for Zinc Biofortification of Rice
