Book title  : Complexities of Financial Globalisation
Editor(s)     : Tony Cavoli, Sasidaran Gopalan, Ramkishen S. Rajan
Contact      : Tony.Cavoli@unisa.edu.au
Publisher   : Routledge

About this book: Since the 1990s, several emerging market and developing economies (EMDEs) have, to varying degrees, embraced the process of financial globalisation, broadly defined as a set of policies that involve allowing for greater openness to cross-border capital flows as well as greater market access to foreign financial institutions. This book provides a systematic empirical analysis on the complex interactions between financial sector development, macroeconomic and financial stability in EMDEs in general and those in the Asian region in particular.

The book consists of three sections pertaining to monetary and exchange rate policies under financial globalisation; financial inclusion and macroeconomic policies in the context of financial liberalisation; and finally, the dynamics of foreign direct investment flows and their real impacts in EMDEs. Each of the chapters analyse important economic policy issues of contemporary relevance and is informed by data and rigorous empirical analysis.

The book will be appealing to anyone interested in exploring the implications of a key set of issues emanating from financial globalisation on EMDEs in a rigorous but readable manner.

Book title  : Postcolonialism, Globalization, and Education
Editor(s)     : Nina Asher, Justin Grinage, Christopher Kolb
Contact      : nasher@umn.edu
Publisher   : Routledge

About this book: This collection examines the intertwined relationship of postcolonialism and globalization in relation to education. Specifically, it analyzes the structures, processes, and effects of recolonization, exploitation, and inculcation in schools, communities, and larger systemic contexts. The book highlights the role of agency and social change in questions of local and global dynamics, society, and schooling and in imagining progress and anti-oppressive education. With depth, breadth, and fresh perspectives on theory, research, and educational practice in transnational contexts, contributors offer insights on colonial and capitalist exploitation that shape not only history, politics, and economics, but culture and education.

Book title  : Classical Heritage and European Identities
Editor(s)     : Lærke Maria Andersen Funder, Troels Myrup Kristensen, Vinnie Nørskov
Contact      : klalmf@cc.au.dk
Publisher   : Routledge

About this book: Classical Heritage and European Identities examines how the heritages of classical antiquity have been used to construct European identities, and especially the concept of citizenship, in Denmark from the eighteenth century to the present day. It implements a critical historiographical perspective in line with recent work on the "reception" of classical antiquity that has stressed the dialectic relationship between past, present and future.

Arguing that the continuous employment and appropriation of lassical heritages in the Danish context constitutes an interesting case of an imagined geography that is simultaneously based on both national and European identities, the book shows how Denmark’s imagined geography is naturalized through very distinctive uses of classical heritages within the educational and heritage sectors.

Book title  : Science under Siege
Editor(s)     : Dick Houtman, Stef Aupers, Rudi Laermans
Contact      : Dick.Houtman@kuleuven.be
Publisher   : Springer Nature

About this book: Identifying scientism as religion’s secular counterpart, this collection studies contemporary contestations of the authority of science. These controversies suggest that what we are witnessing today is not an increase in the authority of science at the cost of religion, but a dual decline in the authorities of religion and science alike. This entails an erosion of the legitimacy of universally binding truth claims, be they religiously or scientifically informed. Approaching the issue from a cultural-sociological perspective and building on theories from the sociology of religion, the volume unearths the cultural mechanisms that account for the headwind faced by contemporary science. The empirical contributions highlight how the field of academic science has lost much of its former authority vis-à-vis competing social realms; how political and religious worldviews define particular research findings as favorites while dismissing others; and how much of today’s distrust of science is directed against scientific institutions and academic scientists rather than against science per se.

Book title  : AI and IOT in Renewable Energy
Editor(s)     : Rabindra Nath Shaw, Nishad Mendis, Saad Mekhilef, Ankush Ghosh
Contact      : rabindra@drshaw.in
Publisher   : Springer Nature

About this book: This book presents the latest research on applications of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things in renewable energy systems. Advanced renewable energy systems must necessarily involve the latest technology like artificial intelligence and Internet of Things to develop low cost, smart and efficient solutions. Intelligence allows the system to optimize the power, thereby making it a power efficient system; whereas, Internet of Things makes the system independent of wire and flexibility in operation. As a result, intelligent and IOT paradigms are finding increasing applications in the study of renewable energy systems. This book presents advanced applications of artificial intelligence and the internet of things in renewable energy systems development. It covers such topics as solar energy systems, electric vehicles etc. In all these areas applications of artificial intelligence methods such as artificial neural networks, genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic and a combination of the above, called hybrid systems, are included. The book is intended for a wide audience ranging from the undergraduate level up to the research academic and industrial communities engaged in the study and performance prediction of renewable energy systems.
